Cache Creek Wild and Scenic
On October 6, 2005 the campaign to protect Cache Creek under the State Wild and Scenic Rivers act came to a successful and happy end! Governor Schwarzenegger signed AB1328 into law, which means that the creek is now protected. Students and staff who worked so diligently on the Synergia Cache Creek project and produced the documentary film, Cache Creek Wild and Scenic, are still in a state of amazement. As Anna S. said afterward, «It isn’t every day that you get to save a river.» Over 150 copies of the Cache Creek film were distributed throughout California and the U.S. – informing citizens and policy makers about the Cache Creek region, and bringing those who may never see the creek into close visual and emotional contact with it. The film was sent to the Schwarzenegger administration, to Maria Shriver, to members of congress, to environmental organizations, to private citizens and to schools. The film joined the ranks of other films that are created as tools to educate and inform the public about a certain issue or place. If you are a teacher, administrator, or the organizer for a non-profit or homeschool group, and would like a copy of either Synergia film to show to students, write to us for a free DVD of Cache Creek Wild and Scenic and/or «Dude, Where’s My River?". We would love to see other young people get inspired to make a difference and be touched by the dedication and commitment of the students from both of these projects. After the bill was signed and the creek protected, we went right to work putting the new, happy ending on the film. We started by interviewing California Assemblymember Lois Wolk, author of the bill. Tom, Debra and Annabelle drove to Lois’ district office in Vacaville on November 15 to conduct the interview, which was more like friends getting together to marvel at the way things can work out sometimes.
