With two extraordinary adventure/stewardship/youth media projects under our belt – Hetch Hetchy in 2004 and Cache Creek in 2005 – the big question is «What is the project for 2006?» The answer is that in summer 2006 we are partnering with Saving The Sierra: Voices of Conservation in Action Project. Saving The Sierra (STS) will document the struggle and successes of conservationists working in the Sierra Nevada and specifically within the geographical boundaries of the Sierra Conservancy. The results will be produced into six public radio features plus an hour- long documentary special, as well as other venues including an interactive website. We’ve met with project directors Catherine Stifter and jesikah maria ross and we are excited to be a part of this innovation. Synergia students will adopt one of the Sierra Nevada Conservancy subregions for the 2006 Summer Expedition. During the expedition, students will interview diverse stakeholders on what conservation means to them, their role in it, and their vision for the future. Dates, details, and applications will be posted on the Synergia website in late January. Family Adventure to Baja California, Mexico On January 21st our crew leaves for Baja California , Mexico , with families in tow. We will be visiting the grey whale calving lagoon of Ojo de Liebre, and the sea turtle research station in Bahia de Los Angeles with a diverse group ranging in age from 8-78. This program sparked the imagination of so many, that it is full with a wait list. If it turns out as well as we hope, we will certainly do it again in 2007. Look for the update in the next newsletter. Synergia has a full Spring program schedule. Please visit the schedule page of our website for details. Summer Adventure Program for 10-13 year old students and 13-18 year old student-mentors Early summer will be the time for this great program that just gets more and more popular.
