December Collaboration Trip Photos In December, Synergia directors Debra and Tom Weistar traveled to Portland, Oregon, and Orcas Island, Washington, to lay groundwork for future growth in the organization. In Portland they started an advisory board (more on this later), and met with grant writers and producers at Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) to discuss possible future partnering on media curriculum projects. Many thanks to our good friend Robin Martin for arranging the meeting. On Orcas Island, they met with a select group of outdoor education professionals to start designing a curriculum for public and private schools that merges social development and challenge course work with environmental and science education. The symposium was hosted by the staff of YMCA Camp Orkila, and held there – a beautiful location and top notch camp facility. The symposium was brought together by Erik Marter of Team Synergo. More on this as it evolves over time and the curriculum is put to use, developed and refined. It was an exciting and energizing start to a new approach to outdoor education.
